Job Summary

Under general supervision and reporting to the Director of Health Information Management, the ROI Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the release of medical information to all requesters, including other health care providers, patients, lawyers, insurance companies, other departments, and employees in order to facilitate proper release of information. Prepares correspondence and medical records for the release of patient information assuring the patient’s right to privacy; completes certificates and other documents for court and legal purpose; arranges for prompt delivery of records to the requestor and prepares bills for copying fees. Interacts extensively with patients, attorneys, physicians, other Hospital staff, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent. Associates degree in an AHIMA approved program in Health Information Technology, or related field preferred
  • Experience
    • One to three years’ Health Information Management experience
  • Licensure and/or Certification
    • Certification as RHIT preferred.
  • Skills
    • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology,
    • Extensive knowledge of Federal and State regulations and policies pertaining to patient confidentiality and privacy, and appropriate release of information.
    • Ability to read and interpret regulatory guidelines with regard to Federal and State patient confidentiality and privacy laws/regulations
    • Strong computer skills to include MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); previous Meditech experience preferred. Extensive use of computer and office equipment including fax, copy machines, scanners.
    • Technical skills to work with detailed systems, computer applications and intradepartmental units
    • Knowledge of JCAHO requirements and federal and state guidelines applicable to health record completeness and patient privacy.
    • Knowledge of health information systems and data management
    • Knowledge of health record content and sequence.
    • Strong analytical and communications skills; detailed oriented.
    • Ability to use judgment in carrying out all phases of the work.
    • Ability to accept constructive analysis based on feedback from inside/outside auditors, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to all phases of the work.
    • Ability to be courteous, tactful, and cooperative throughout the working day.
    • Ability to process and provide accurate paperwork.
    • Ability to process work within presented deadlines and time frames.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and large amounts of data.
    • Ability to work independently as well as a team player.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills to ensure effective outcomes in dealing with the medical staff and other hospital employees.
    • Subject to irregular hours occasionally.
    • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
    • Ability to maintain confidential information.
