Emergency Department Unit Coordinator (24 Hours) Evening Shift | 3:00 PM – 11:30PM

We are seeking an organized and dependable Emergency Department Unit Coordinator to support the daily operations of our Emergency Services team. In this role, you will serve as a central point of communication for physicians, nurses, EMS personnel, patients, and families while helping ensure efficient workflow across the department.
This is a 24-hour evening position working 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM.
What You’ll Do
As the Unit Coordinator, you will play an essential role in keeping the Emergency Department organized and functioning efficiently. Responsibilities include:
• Supporting the clinical team with a variety of clerical and administrative duties
• Transcribing physician orders and entering diagnostic testing orders into the electronic system
• Maintaining and organizing patient medical records while ensuring strict confidentiality
• Answering and triaging incoming calls to the unit
• Greeting patients, families, EMS personnel, and visitors professionally
• Scheduling tests, appointments, and outpatient clinic visits
• Coordinating requests for medical records with outside facilities
• Maintaining the nursing station and ensuring the workspace remains organized
• Assisting with maintaining the ED tracking system and specialist on-call schedules
• Processing Emergency Department charts daily, including electronic entry and manual processing
• Supporting ambulance dispatch for 911 emergency calls and hospital transfer coordination
• Assisting nursing staff with non-clinical tasks when needed such as patient transport, nourishment delivery, equipment movement, or stretcher cleaning
• Ordering and maintaining office supplies with approval from the Nurse Director
• Promoting and maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and respect in all interactions
• Supporting additional department needs as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma preferred.
Experience
Previous administrative or secretarial experience required, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting.
Experience with computers and word processing required.
Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Skills

• Ability to handle confidential patient information with discretion
• Excellent interpersonal skills when working with patients, families, physicians, and EMS personnel
