Job Summary

  • Under the general supervision of the microbiology Supervisor and the technical guidance of a Medical Technologist performs a variety of routine and specialized CLIA-Waived and Non-Waived diagnostic laboratory tests on specimens including blood and body fluids as prescribed by Physicians and Healthcare providers in the technical areas of Microbiology, Urinalysis and Serology. Processes and performs analysis on all specimens, reports results to appropriate personnel and maintains instrumentation. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • High School diploma required.
    • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certifications preferred.
    • MLT or MT student enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree program in Microbiology, Biology, Basic Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science preferred.

  • Licensure and/or Certification
    • No license required.
  • Skills
    • Must have the ability to take action based on review of policies, protocols, procedures and methodologies.
    • Requires knowledge of basic laboratory methods and Microbiology principles.
    • Working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment. Manual dexterity sufficient to effect venipuncture and safely handle specimens, calibrate equipment, etc.
    • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist. Good knowledge of quality control principles.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, outside agencies, vendors and fellow staff members.
    • Computer proficiency required.
    • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
    • Ability to maintain confidential information.
